Where it stands on the western end of the Corniche, Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers today finds itself amid a cluster of hotels. It beholds the best (and highest) views of all, and is within walking distance of some of the city’s most popular attractions, whilst being a one-stop shop for dining and shopping.

Its positioning puts the hotel just a short walk from Emirates Palace and the new memorial dedicated to United Arab Emirates Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed. Marina Mall and the Corniche Family Beach are just a few miles away, while the international airport is a 30-minute taxi ride away. Construction on land at the rear of the hotel is ongoing.

There is nothing subtle about these 69-storey towers which are designed to stand out. Swarovski-crystal chandeliers wow upon entry, as does the floor-to-ceiling glass-panelled atrium. The rich interiors continue in the amethyst-encrusted lifts and on conference level with its magnificent pearl-encrusted statement ceiling. Beige interiors and floral carpet motifs provide for a crisp, modern finish.

From the valet staff through to the housekeeping personnel, service is efficient and friendly. The one disappointment during my stay involved a breach of the do-not-disturb sign. There are 12 dining outlets, a unisex spa with an impressive menu and a well-equipped gym, along with three pools (including swim-up bar). The 1400-capacity ballroom is ideal for weddings, while the 13 meeting rooms are testament to its business appeal. There’s a private beach, a collection of high-end stores, and an observation deck offering the city’s highest vantage point.

The Rooms

There are 382 rooms and suites and 199 serviced apartments. Deluxe standard rooms offer cityscape or sea views. All have a sitting area and sizeable work space, along with remote-controlled lighting and curtains. The Grand Deluxe room is bigger than the Standard size and higher up, while the Club category offers access to complimentary meals and snacks in the lounge. The Etihad and Royal suites are the superior choices, with generous floor space, separate living areas, butler service and personalised check-in.

The Restaurants

A dining destination in its own right with 12 bars and restaurants, Ray’s Bar and Ray’s Grill are best for dining sky-high or a pre-dinner drink , while signature steak meals start from . Peruvian spot Toro Toro is the latest addition and offers one of the best smoked guacamoles in the capital. Shisha is available at select outlets. Breakfast is an elaborate affair served in the Rosewater restaurant. Whether it be eggs, fruit, pastries, Arabic favourites, Asian dishes, exotic fruits, waffles or gluten-free items, it’s all here and good.
